Incorporated in 1954, the name L’Anse Creuse was chosen for its historic significance and French heritage.  L’Anse Creuse is the French name for “Little Bay” or “Shallow Bay.”

It has 10 elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools. In addition, it has two childcare centers, a career and technical education center, an adult and alternative education facility, and advanced Math/Science/Technology program, a performing arts program, and the John R. Armstrong Performing Arts Center.
