Chesterfield

Points of Pride

Student birthday books are made possible by the school’s Morley Candy fund-raiser.

Staff supports Chesterfield Elementary School students as well as charities related to leukemia and breast cancer research. The money donations come from the Chesterfield staff through occasional dress-down days.

Good behavior during lunch and recess earned student recognition through weekly lunchroom drawings and prizes.

Fourth- and fifth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in choir.

In celebration of "March is Reading Month," the students participate in theme based activities, which helped motivate students to read. The students read all month long totaling over 170,000 pages read! We also partner with Meijer and the store’s Books for Bikes program. Meijer donates ice cream sandwiches for all of our "March is Reading Month" participants.

We have a Science Olympiad team. We are proud and appreciative of our parent coaches!

Math Olympiad is a great opportunity for students in third- through fifth-grades to use their math skills while having fun!

Fifth-graders learn more about their state government during a spring field trip to Lansing. They also tour the state’s historical museum.

The Drama Club is directed by a parent volunteer. The group work hard to produce performances. Family and friends are delighted to see the talent we have among our students.

The Chesterfield Student Council is sponsored by a third-grade teacher. Many great things were accomplished last year, such as treats during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Our staff actively pursues project-funding opportunities, which are made available through the school district. Student leadersip training and innovative Math and Science supplies have been provided. All enrich the school experience.

The Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) has also made many great donations to the students and staff of Chesterfield. They include Science Olympiad T-shirts, assemblies both during and after school, a pizza party for the top reading classes for "March is Reading Month" and funding for a field trip for each class in the school. The fifth-grade dance they sponsored gave our students a chance to walk down the "red carpet" and to be cheered on by the paparazzi (A.K.A. our dedicated staff).

This year’s school-sponsored Morley fundraiser was very successful thanks to parent support.

Parent Volunteers

Parent Participation

When parents become partners in the educational process, students succeed. Depicted to the right are the percentages of parents who participated in parent conferences each semester.

Volunteer Opportunities

The School Improvement Goal Teams have parent representatives in their membership.

One hundred percent of parents support the Behavior Management System by signing and returning the "We Did It" slip.

Parents participate as partners in education through field trip supervision, helping in classrooms and special projects. They read to and tutored students. They have volunteered during the book fair, in the media center and in the computer lab. Our parents have supported fund raisers, helped with field-day activities and prepared classroom materials at school and in the comfort of their homes.

Chesterfield’s PTO generates funds to provide materials and experiences to support the curriculum. Our parent group also organizes many after-school activities: an Ice Cream Social, Fall Festival, Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom, Santa Shop, Bingo Night, Movie Nights and the fifth-grade end-of-the-year celebration.

Parents and other family members are called upon to share knowledge and experience as guest speakers. Parents talked about their jobs as Community Helpers in kindergarten, first-grade and multi-age classes.

There is tremendous parent involvement with the Acting Owls Drama Club.

Kindergarten parents participate with Literacy Night activities.Attendance was great and parent feedback even better.

School volunteers are recognized at a Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. This event is very well attended. Our volunteers are treated to a musical presentation by students and delicious desserts provided by the staff.
