Points of Pride

• Teachers participated in a mentor program for at-risk students.

• Sheila DeBuck, fifth-grade teacher, was named Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for 2007.

• Karen Bryce, second-grade teacher, was awarded a grant from the L’Anse Creuse Foundation to fund the Dinosaur Dig Assembly.

• Twenty-two teachers have developed staff Web pages.

• Michigan Reading Association recognized Kaitlyn Benacquisto, second-grade student,as the 2007 Young Author Kaleidoscope winner.

• Mrs. Morgan, music teacher, developed an on-site music CD featuring Higgins Students.

• Salvation Army Toy Drive

• Mr. Conger, physical education teacher, initiated American Red Cross Jump Rope for Heart.


• Penny Drive for Macomb Food Program

• Mrs. Hoffner sponsored a Higgins Gardening Club for students in grades 3-5.

• Science Olympiad Team finished third in the district and sixth in the county competition among 37 schools.

• An extended day program was available for third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students, which provided additional support in reading, writing and mathematics.

• Higgins Hall of Fame continued this year recognizing students for being a good role model relative to our school rules.

• Mrs. Hoffner’s first-grade class donated school supplies to our adopted school in Mexico.

• Fifth-grade students, teachers and parent chaperones attended Camp Howell in February.

• Ms. Hendricks’ Web page was featured in December on the L’Anse Creuse Intranet.

• Parents of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students attended a parent reading night.
