Points of Pride

• A Michigan Blue Ribbon School

• Our focus on positive behavior remains an emphasis in our school as we continue in our third year of adopting the "Fish!" philosophy using the four
areas of: Be There, Make Their Day, Play, and Choose Your Attitude.

• Two full-day Kindergarten programs

• School-wide participation in breaking the Guinness Book of World Records
for reading Charlotte’s Web at the same time across the country.

• Co-teaching of students at third- and fifth-grade

• Extended Day Program for second- grade students provided support in reading.

• Students are honored monthly for academics and/or behavior at our Celebration of Learning Assembly.

• Students in various classrooms had poetry events, in which parents
were invited to listen to student created poems.

• Our Donald J. Yacks Elementary School Constitution, written by students and staff, is framed and on display in the lobby.


• Our students involved in Science Olympiad placed fourth in the district competition.

• Students join the principal each month for a "Caught You Being Good" lunch

• Our school continues our partnership with L’Anse Creuse High

School students from their Captains Council each week, supporting our
fourth- and fifth-grade students on classroom assignments and
special activities.

• Our Hall of Fame, located in the school lobby, displays student work
from every classroom.

• Each week a poem or story written by one of our students is published in our newsletter, The Tribune.
